§ 62-2. Michigan Vehicle Code.

  • (a)

    The provisions of the Michigan Vehicle Code (MCL 257.1 et seq.) are hereby adopted and are hereby incorporated by reference as if fully set out herein.

    (b)

    References in the Michigan Vehicle Code for cities, townships and villages to "governmental unit" shall mean the city.

    (c)

    Any violation of the Michigan Vehicle Code, as incorporated herein by reference, shall be a violation of this chapter except as otherwise provided in this Code.

    (d)

    The provisions of this section relating to the operation of vehicles shall refer to the operation of vehicles upon the streets of the city and to places open to the general public or to a portion of the general public for the operation of vehicles.

    (e)

    Any provision of any ordinance to the contrary notwithstanding, any provision of the Michigan Vehicle Code or of this chapter which describes an act, omission or condition which constitutes a civil infraction is declared to be processed as a civil infraction, as provided for under this Code. Any person found to be responsible for a civil infraction may be ordered to pay a civil fine of not more than $500.00, together with costs, and the judge or magistrate may impose such additional penalties as are provided for by law, section 1-7, and the procedures set forth in chapter 2, article V of this Code shall be applicable to the extent not inconsistent with the Michigan Vehicle Code.
